Our largest and most successful fundraiser is our Rams and Rivals for Hearts and Hope golf tournament. This fun golf tournament is held in June on the Friday before Father’s Day. The tournament consists of two-person teams of former athletes, students, alumni, supporters and fans from the University of North Carolina (RAMS) and all the other ACC schools (RIVALS). There is always a winner and a loser in this competition, but the overall winners are the children and families that we help.
This unique tournament was designed by Hearts and Hope Foundation members Mark Sigmon, Wesley Sigmon and Tommy Barnhardt who are all former UNC football players. In addition to playing at UNC, Tommy Barnhardt had a successful 14 year NFL career. We also have had other former football, basketball and baseball players participate in this great tournament and support our organization. Bryan Harvey, a former Major League Baseball all-star pitcher with the California Angels and Florida Marlins, Al Wood, a former All ACC and All American basketball player at UNC and the NBA and Bobby Lutz, the winningest men’s basketball coach at UNC Charlotte, are all regular participants in this tournament. Each year is different and players never know what former great athlete or coach might be seen enjoying a great round of golf while supporting a wonderful organization.
